An original two-coin Sovereign set containing Canadian Sovereigns. Canada has the lowest output of all branch mints and this is an excellent opportunity to acquire two coins (which you are sure to be original) that are so difficult to find.
In the image, from left to right:
Coin 1 - The Sovereign that is year-dated 1911 is one of the first Sovereigns that was struck in Canada.
Coin 2 - The Sovereign that is year-dated 1919 is one of the last Sovereigns to be struck in Canada.
Both Sovereigns feature the iconic St George and the dragon reverse design by Benedetto Pistrucci.
The 1911 Sovereign was struck in the coronation year of King George V and his spouse Queen Mary of Teck.
The Ottawa mint opened on 2 January 1908 and produced gold Sovereigns under request from the Royal Mint, London, using gold mined in British Columbia and the Yukon. Coins made at this mint bear the letter C for Canada but production was limited; by the time the mint ceased production of sovereigns in 1919, there had been only 628,150 struck, mostly for export purposes. The Ottawa mint became the Royal Canadian Mint in 1931.
Supplied in official Royal Mint packaging including presentation case, printed booklet exploring the history of the canadian branch of the Royal Mint, located in Ottawa, through coin and a certificate of authenticity.
