Pedro V (Lisbon, September 16, 1837 – November 11, 1861) was King of Portugal and the Algarves from 1853 until his death. He was the eldest son of Queen Maria II of Portugal and her husband, King Fernando II. He ascended the throne at only 16 years of age, after the death of his mother, with his father acting as Regent of the Kingdom until he came of age in 1855.
