(1st portrait)
Luís I (Lisbon, October 31, 1838 – Cascais, October 19, 1889) was King of Portugal and the Algarves from 1861 until his death. The second son of Queen Maria II and her consort, Fernando II, Luís succeeded to the throne after the premature death of his older brother, Pedro V. In contrast to the first half of the century, his reign was characterized by the effective functioning of the constitutional monarchy, the completion of the railway network, economic and political reforms, and the modernization of Portuguese society.
The picture is just an example. We could also have available coins with other dates.
